Bettystown Tidy Towns (BTT) were formed in November 2017 through a remarkable coincidence. Two of our founding local residents, Liam Keane and Cormac Reynolds (who had never met before), came up with the exact same idea on the very same day. When one set out to create a Facebook page for Bettystown Tidy Towns, he discovered it had been set up just hours earlier by the other. The pair got in touch, and as we say, the rest is history.

They reached out to two other locals who shared our passion for the community. On the first morning together, equipped with just a litter picker and a rubbish bag each, they walked the village and beach, getting to know one another and mapping out a vision for the group. Since that humble beginning, BTT has grown far beyond expectations.

Today, our group boasts over 40 active volunteers representing seven different nationalities, alongside an extensive inventory of equipment to help us maintain the area. From commissioned sculptures and vibrant murals to pollinator-friendly gardens throughout the village, our efforts are easy to spot. Our dedication plays a major role in Bettystown Beach earning both Blue Flag and Green Coast awards. We actively collaborate with local businesses, schools, and developers to continuously enhance the village for residents and visitors alike.

While our group has earned numerous accolades from Pride of Place, the SuperValu Tidy Towns competition, and An Taisce Clean Coasts, our volunteers share a simple philosophy: "We don't do it for prizes; we do it for pride." It’s about pride in our community, the place where we live, work, and raise our families.
